Among more than 10 species of mulberry Black Mulberry (Morus Nigra) has earned most of the praise. This fruit is native to China, whence it had been spread along the Great Silk Road trade routes on and through Georgia and Eastern Europe to all over the globe. 2-3cm long fruit is pale green in the beginning going all the way through red to almost black dark purple savoury fruit as it ripens.
Mulberry has been considered a special delicacy for the royal court in ancient times. Chinese held mulberry capable of improving circulation and preventing premature greying of hair.
Mulberry is rich in anthocyanins – edible pigments that may be used as dietary antioxidants beneficial against variety of maladies. Anthocyanin content depends on the climate and area of cultivation and is particularly high in sunny climate similar to what Georgia has.
Mulberry is mainly used in weight-loss diets, also in building blood and coating the stomach in case of any gastric disturbances.
