Tomato Sauce Satsebeli ← back to Sauces
Satsebeli may be a difficult word to pronounce but it means nothing more complicated than merely 'sauce' in Georgian, or, literally, 'substance to dip food into'. Satsebeli is made of premium ripe red tomatoes seasoned with variety of spices, including coriander, dill, garlic, red pepper, fenugreek blue and so forth.
Tomatoes don't lose any of their nutritional value through hot cooking, so neither canned tomatoes nor Georgia's Natural sauce Satsebeli are less viable and wholesome than fresh tomatoes.
Tomato is rich in vitamins C and A, potassium and iron. Red pigment giving tomato rich colour is known as lycopene. Not until recently, it has been known that lycopene is twice as potent as another well-known antioxidant – beta-carotene. Thus tomato consumption may serve as a good precaution against prostate cancer and lower the risk of developing stomach cancers. Lycopene is also powerful inhibitor of lung, breast and endometrial cancer cell development.
